Roos Peltenburg is a photographer based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Her work focuses primarily on the relationship between clothing and the body. Her fascination with this theme began during her fashion studies at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. The tension between the physical body and the shapes imposed by clothing forms the core of her work. In addition to photography, collage technique is an important part of her work. By combining images, new shapes, proportions and unexpected compositions are created. Research into materials also plays a role in her work. In this way a two-dimensional image can be transformed into a sculptural form in space.
'My work emerges from an investigative approach. With my images, I want to invite the viewer to look at the everyday in a different way and to reflect on how we adapt and perceive the body. In a world where everything is increasingly malleable, our self-image and identity are also influenced. The constant possibility of change raises questions about control and the desire for perfection. My work is about transformation, the moment when forms shift and something new emerges. I like to give the recognisable a different dimension, and I am not looking for perfection.
